Spencer and Miller's Shared Vision
In 2008, Richard Spencer co-founded the Alt-Right movement to have a foundation on which he could build a community of like-minded people who would help him amplify his goals of creating a white ethno-state in America.
"As an umbrella term ‘alt-right’ is used to describe a movement that is a mix of populism and white nationalism and was birthed predominantly online.” [1][2]

"The Associated Press’ standards guide defines ‘alt-right’ as ‘as a mix of racism, white nationalism and populism.’ In the past we have called such beliefs racist, neo-Nazi or white supremacist.” [3]
Prior to the Alt-Right, Richard Spencer was a graduate student at Duke University where he found a kindred spirit in Stephen Miller.
"Being a few years older and in graduate school, Spencer says, he mentored Miller." [4]
Together, these two would propel forward two distinct but complementary career paths in support of the tene ts of white nationalism and the anti-immigration position. They encompass two interrelated concepts known as nativism and restrictionism. Miller would pursue these views through communications and the implementation of policy.
Spencer meanwhile focused on a more hands-on approach, constructing grassroots momentum through his Alt-Right and its injection of values and beliefs into mainstream republicanism; pathfinding a way to generate the public support needed to ratify their mutual vision for the future; to turn their ideals into the rule of law.
